The tomato soup diet is one of the new diets that has sprung up over the last few years. Many people used to think that the link between tomatoes and weight loss was an old wives’ tale; one which has passed down through the generations, yet it works surprisingly well. Many dieters have lost 10 to 15 pounds in a week on the tomato soup diet and have been astounded by the effect it has had on them.

The reason why tomato weight loss is so easy to achieve is because tomatoes are very low in calories. They consist mainly of water, yet contain many vitamins and nutrients that are essential in order for the body to work properly. Because of this, tomatoes are a healthy food that won’t add unnecessary weight to your body. The issue arises, however, because tomato weight loss is hard to achieve in many cases due to the fact that tomatoes are used mainly as an accompaniment to other meals; as an additional bit of food.

This means that, although you may be eating lots of tomatoes you aren’t achieving any weight loss because you are also eating lots of other foods.

This is combated in the tomato soup diet. Essentially, a broth or soup is mainly water (in the form of stock etc) which means that it adds no additional calories to the meal. This means that the only calories you are taking in are those from the tomatoes. This way, tomato weight loss is achieved startlingly efficiently; you do not lose out on the essential vitamins you need in your diet (as the tomatoes provide them) yet you don’t put on much weight because the tomatoes have very few calories. This is the reason why tomatoes and weight loss have been linked throughout the years; they are nutritious yet don’t add negative things into your diets.

The other advantage to the tomato soup diet is that tomato soup can be eaten anywhere. Unlike other meals that have to be eaten at a table or on a plate, tomato soup can be taken almost anywhere as long as you have a flask. You can eat it at a football match, at work or at home and it won’t add hassle.

Tomato soup is also incredibly refreshing in the winter when it is heated up, and is equally refreshing when served cold in the summer. An important tip for preparing the best tomato soup is to cook it around the month of September when the tomatoes are ripe and juicy. Tomato Soup RecipeIngredients
- 1 (14-ounce) can chopped tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 3/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil leaves
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 1 stalk celery, chopped
- 1 yellow onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, chopped
- 1 bay leaf

Tomato Soup RecipeDirections
Preheat your oven.
Strain the chopped canned tomatoes, reserving the juices, and add them into a pot, season with salt and pepper, to taste. Pour 1/4 cup of olive oil and roast for about 10 minutes.
In the same time use a saucepan to heat the remaining olive oil over medium-low heat. Add the Onion, garlic and celery. Let them cook for about 10 minutes.
Add the already prepared tomatoes, the reserved tomato juices, bay leaf and butter. Simmer until vegetables are tender. It takes around 15 minutes.
Add basil.
Puree with a hand held immersion blender until smooth.
Finally let it cool down, preferably overnight, or at least 3 hours.
Serve it cold.
