Don’t mix carbohydrates and proteins. Both of these types of foods are rich in calories and are relatively ‘heavy’ foods – meaning that you will have to do additional exercise to work it off. By not eating both carbohydrates and proteins in the same meal, we take in a much more manageable amount of energy that can be used much more readily.

Eat slowly and deliberately. Because we are rushing when we get back from work, we tend to wolf down our food. We assume that our bodies work out that we are full and tell us to stop eating as soon as we get full, yet in reality it takes around 20 minutes for our stomach to tell our brain to stop eating. If you eat overly quickly then you run the risk of eating too much. In those 20 minutes you can eat a lot more food that your body doesn’t want; resulting in you gaining weight.     I think all this is great and i am yet to try it, i just hope it works! over the last two years my weight has been up and down by about 2 stone, and it is driving me crazy, i am afraid i have ruined my metabolism and that it won’t come off again!

    @Charlotte: You have to be positive. Rush those negative thoughts out of your mind. You will be able to lose weight. Go for a gradual weight loss approach and don’t Yo-Yo diet. Adopt long term changes, adjust your lifestyle. Losing weight constantly and at a moderate place will help you to maintain it easier. Good luck!

    I know exactly what you mean! My weight has been up and down these past couple of years too and I just found out I’ve gained a few more lbs and it’s risen all together to about 2 1/2 stone. I went to a group weight loss meeting and thought it did nothing for me, so I’m planning to self-discipline and aim to reach my target weight alone! I know it’s possible ‘cos I’ve done it before! Good luck and I’m sure you’ll manage fine to shift the lbs with determination!

    I’m under 16 but my body developed early and i’m fairly certain i have stopped growing, but should i still attempt to lose weight? I have gained quite a lot of weight through the space of about 3 years, and i really want to get down to size again, but most importantly i want to do it safely as i have a history of mild eating disorders. I really hope these tips work, as all i can think about these days is my weight, but i have problems with willpower.
